Bat Fans, you most definitely HAVE to add this one to your collection, or like myself, buy it so you can start one. I own an abundance of the comics, but after reading this, I realized I am not as schooled on Batman as I thought. Not that I know it all, but considering just how much information is presented here, it is both awesome while leaving you awestruck. From 1939 to 2014, the information is quite detailed and it is fascinating to understand how, from small beginnings as a comic strip originally entitled Bat-Man, the removal of the hyphen would signal a change that Batman would never be the same. This book is big, really big, and gives us something I did not expect. Here on Amazon, the images shown to be the front and back of the book actually are not images for the book, rather the large case that holds the book. The two combined bring a weight a little over 6 pounds, so know you will not get through this read quickly, and neither should you want to do so. The artwork of Jason Fabok is stellar, as always, and the exclusive prints are illustrated by him, as well. The first print is the actual cover to the book, and the second shows the case images as a solid piece, with 4 snapshots of a young Bruce Wayne after his parents were killed, Joker, Batman & Catwoman, and Apokolips battling Batman. Perhaps the only gripe about this visual history is the size of the font when reading the caption of the comic books listed about Batman's history. Maybe making the book a half inch taller would have benefited those of us may not wear glasses, but can struggle at times with fonts this size. The binding is tight, and gives just enough to allow for page turning that should not weaken the spine of the book. 75 years, that's a lot to cover on any topic, but if you are reading this, then you have surely determined Batman is well worth it. I encourage you to stop waiting & start paying. 5 stars. No diggity, no doubt.Tags : Batman: A Visual History [Matthew K. Manning] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. If you buy one book about Batman, it should be this. A fantastic retrospective on the 75 year history of pop culture's greatest character. Much more attention to the golden and silver age than I anticipated. The timeline is a much have for anyone with a passing interest in the history of Batman. Highly recommended.
This is the best batman encyclopedia ever! As a huge fan of batman my whole life I've never seen a book with so much information! The only way a book could be any more in depth would be if they literally went issue by issue.
Haven't been able to see the art work. My book came completely separate form the hard cover. It looks like it was a printing mistake. I bought this for a Christmas present and I'm so glad I did it with a month of anticipation. I'm so sad I'll have to stress about getting a good present in time... This was a really disappointing experience.
Purchased this book for my husband for Christmas, which of whom is a HUGE Batman fan and he absolutely LOVES it! This book gives a run down of the art work, story developments and history enhancements throughout the years starting from the absolute beginning 75 years ago! This book makes a great gift for any Batman fan who is interested in the changes from beginning to present day. Would definitely recommend as a needed purchase for any Batman collection!
I got it in a whole day early, which was good. The problem is that the corners and edges were bent badly. I got this as a present for my wife. It looks like it had been poorly stored for years, then slammed into a box and shipped out.
I was sorely disappointed.
The contents of book itself were pretty awesome.
Got this as a gift for a family member sight unseen and it was an excellent choice. He collects Batman memorabilia so it was a shot in the dark that he wouldn't have this, but as it turns out, he didn't. EXCELLENT price - I was able to stick within the exchange limits, yet get a great gift that was totally appreciated. Contains images and history of Batman, other "good guys" and villains throughout the years. Very well put together - every collector should have this book.
I like it, but this book solely focuses on the comics. It seems to go year by year and takes some key issues to show and talk about. It's not bad, but I was really hoping for some more information in other ways. It's still a great book to have if you collect Batman Comics and Trade paperbacks, but I think I should have gotten some encyclopedias on Batman. Considering the cost of the book I could have likely gotten 2-3 of those types and been better off....that said it's a nice book.
It has great artwork and is layered out in a fantastic way. This is going to be a coffee table book for sure.
